CROATIAN SOCCER TOURNAMENT 2011 Sydney
The 37th Croatian Soccer Tournament held in Sydney 29 Sept - 2 Oct this year had a record 51 teams entered from all over Australia & New Zealand. The Gold Coast Knights entered 4 teams which is also a record number of teams that any one club has sent in the 37 year history of the tournament.
Our womens team faired the best by narrowly missing out making the finals after having in their group the two eventual grand finalists.
The highlight of the trip was to see if we could come home winning the bid to host the 38th. Croatian Soccer Tournament on the Gold Coast. After numerous meetings with the federation and federation members it was a tough contest against newly promoted Dandenong City.
At a packed Sydney Convention Centre with a crowd of 1200 people the atmosphere was tense at the Knights tables. After the Miss Croatia winners were announced the time had come and to present next years hosts the federation banner and the right to play host to 5,000 people a football carnival that sets the club a light. Outgoing federation president Ivan Vuletic announced the Gold Coast as winners which sent the Knights contigency into raptures and most other clubs hysterical knowing that next years tournament will be on the sunny Gold Coast.
Well done to our own Gabi Palavra who represented the Gold Coast in the beauty pagent. She was absolutely stunning and unlucky not to come home with the crown. Thanks Gabi for being a great ambassador for our club.
Michael Thwaite Thank you letter
On behalf of Gold Coast United I would like to thank Gold Coast Knights for your support towards our
‘Bay for the Day’ promotion on Friday November 18 at Skilled Park.
Your encouragement was phenomenal and it was great to see so many of your club members cheering
for United right until the final whistle.
Your support has not gone unnoticed and I know the players and club genuinely appreciate your effort.
There is no better feeling than walking into a stadium full of young fans. Your every cheer helps lift the
team and there is nothing more fulfilling than hearing the roar of a spirited home crowd.
We hope you will continue to show your support for us in the future to ensure you, our junior football
players, have the opportunity to one day play for Gold Coast United.
Yours in football,
Michael Thwaite.

GC KNIGHTS 2 : PNG 5
The Knights had a torrid time keeping up with the nippy PNG national team that is being fine tuned by ex Socceroo & Brisbane Roar coach Frank Farina. The Knights used both its senior and resrves teams as their game against Broadbeach on Sunday carries substantial weight especially for the reserves who are in the top 4.
In the post match speech Farina thanked the Knights faithful and not suprisingly was impressed with the way the PNG was taken care before and after game. Both teams enjoyed the buffet dinner after the game in what finished the night in good fashion
After a great year all round we had 5 teams that made the top 4. Under 12, Under 13, Womens, Div 3 Men & our Reserves. Our Under 13's were the only ones to win a grand final and our Women and Reserves narrowly losing in Grand Final.
We also thank the volunteers who helped all our teams throughout the year and make it possible for the club to move forward.
We are all excited about hosting the 38th Annual Croatian Soccer Tournament on the Gold Coast Sept 27- 30, 2012. What is expected to be the biggest tournament ever we are well into organising this monumental event that could see in excess of 5,000 people come through our premises that weekend.
